The joy of performing for us (Lian ensemble) is to play songs that touch our heart. We also decided to perform mystical world music in the hope that by this renewed exposure younger and future generations may embrace a musical genre that has been treasured for centuries and is an integral part of the tapestry of our rich musical heritage. Lian Ensemble is perhaps the most exceptional group of its generation. The ensemble's original compositions and structured improvisations performed by several of very best of the contemporary Persian musicians. This ensemble has had a profound impact on Persian music, introducing the world to a plethora of new music and compositions. Devoted to interpreting the rich repertoire of Persian classical music while using its fundamentals of melodic, rhythmic and dynamic variation to develop new forms and combined sonorities.
Lian Ensemble has been recognized for it's work, presenting concerts to sold out crowds in Los Angeles at venues like the Wilshire Ebel Theatre, The Getty Center, Royce Hall, the Ford Amphitheater. Lian Ensemble is in constant collaboration in a wide variety of settings, including a lecture/concert with Nobel Prize winner Shirin Ebadi, and concerts with esteemed world music artists such as Djivan Gasparyan and Swapan Chaudhuri.
Winner of L.A. Weekly Music Awards for Best World Music/ Recombinant Artist in 2004 and 2005. "Lian Ensemble is a gifted group with completive compositions and Virtuosic performances"-Don Heckman, L.A. Times.
Leading Persian musicians of the Lian Ensemble join forces with virtuoso performing artists from United states. These performing artists are highly trained in an array of musical traditions and instruments from Iran, Eastern Europe, Western Classical, folk and jazz traditions. It is with deep seated belief in mystical music as a bridge to increased understanding amongst us as human beings that lian ensemble offers new work across cultural boundaries of the world.
